Parents of 8 year-old can decide if they want their child in the Jr camp (Students are exposed to Building and Coding as the Instructors guide the students) or Sr camp (students are given instruction to build and code and instructors help when needed).

Lego BattleBot Engineering, Invention and 3D Printing MegaCamp

Turn your child’s love of LEGO into a passion for STEM (science, technology, engineering and math). Instructors inspire students to become engineers, programmers, inventors and entrepreneurs.  Robot Academy is Columbus’ original LEGO Robotics and STEM camp. Our founders won the First Lego League World Championship two years in a row (first place in robotics out of 10,000 teams) and have also won numerous national invention and science competitions. Robot Academy opened over 12 years ago and has taught thousands of young students. Many of our camp graduates have gone on to win their own international championships.  It’s the ultimate STEM experience.  Registration includes a Robot Academy t-shirt.

Our most popular option for budding engineers who love LEGOs is the MegaCamp. This camp combines our 5-day morning and afternoon camps with a supervised lunch break in-between. Students complete robot challenges to earn points in the morning and afternoon sessions. The trophies at the end of the camp are based on points earned by accomplishing robot challenges in the morning and afternoon sessions, so students have twice the chance to win tall trophies to reward their achievements. Award ceremonies are a fun celebration of our students’ talents. Our instructors provide individual help for students to ensure success.

The morning session of the camp focuses on Lego Robotics InventionLAB and 3D Printing.

Bring your ideas to life! We teach ‘rapid prototyping’, a technique that involves quickly building prototypes of invention ideas using LEGO Robotics or 3D printers. Kids design and build custom inventions with the help of their instructor and then present their prototypes to a Shark Tank panel (like on the TV show)! Kids enjoy presenting killer pitches to the encouraging judges Students complete robot challenges to earn points to win tall trophies to reward their achievements. We have individual help from Instructors to make sure that all students not only win trophies, but also gain confidence and a big smile. Students engage in programming, engineering, collaboration, problem-solving, data analysis, 3D Modeling and critical thinking.

The afternoon session: Sr. Arduino LEGO® Robot Build, Code, Expand (PM Camp)

Today’s young tech enthusiasts, aged 8 to 13, are adept at navigating the digital world and are eager to engage with the advanced robotic technology available at our summer camp. They’ll delve into the fascinating realm of robotics by operating a friendly robot through remote control interactions or by utilizing the intuitive drag-and-drop interface of Scratch programming. By constructing LEGO attachments for their robots, campers will engage in stimulating activities that ignite their engineering curiosity and foster learning through playful exploration.

Participants will revel in the excitement of a LEGO Robot BattleBot championship, where their custom-built robots will compete in thrilling contests. With the guidance of our skilled instructors and through captivating step-by-step video tutorials, campers will master the construction and programming of BattleBots using the Scratch programming language. We ensure a spirited and inclusive competition by conducting BattleBot rounds until each camper secures at least one victory.  Our goal is to build confidence in STEAM (Science Tech Engineering Art and Math).

Campers have the opportunity to purchase their robot, allowing them to continue their robotic adventures post-camp. For returning campers bringing back their robot, we offer the chance to enhance their robots with additional features like the LED Matrix Expansion set (receive last year with robot) or the Servo Add-on set for a nominal fee (new add-on set for our returning campers…it is pictured above, add-on allows robot to carry things).

Beyond the battles, students will tackle various robot challenges, accumulating points to win trophies and celebrate their accomplishments. Our instructors are dedicated to providing personalized support, ensuring every camper feels a sense of achievement and leaves as a joyful and proud participant.
